Seated alongside the Missouri River, Omaha is the Cornhusker State’s urban anchor. World-class shopping and dining, a burgeoning arts and cultural scene, and a full calendar of entertainment and special events mean visitors won’t have trouble finding plenty to see and do during a fall visit.
This season’s cooler weather means it's the perfect time to visit Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium – many of the 17,000 animals currently calling Doorly home come out of hiding as temperatures fall. Or get even closer to nature by relaxing at N.P. Dodge Memorial Park, on the north side of town along the banks of the Missouri River. An 1804 campsite of the Lewis and Clark expedition, the 445-acre park is the perfect place for swimming, fishing, boating, and even water skiing.
Fall visitors find a sense of community through the Omaha area’s numerous fall festivals. The 2015 Autumn Festival: An Arts & Crafts Affair fills the Ralston area with craft vendors, food, and fun for the whole family, November 5th through 8th.
This part of the country is known for a style of barbecue all its own, and Kearney invites visitors to taste what makes it so special on November 18th and 19th. The 2016 BBQ on the Bricks event pits chefs against one another in a heated KCBS-sanctioned competition. Taste meats savory and sweet while enjoying live music, a beer garden, and activities for the little ones.
Football fans throughout Lincoln, the Cornhusker State, and beyond are in the midst of another heart-pounding season of cheering on the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers. Join over 87,000 fans at Memorial Stadium, as the Cornhuskers take on Big Ten Conference foes through early December.
