Visiting Nebraska

The diverse landscape of the Cornhusker State is at its most inviting in the springtime. Outdoor adventures await in destinations like Chadron State Park, Yanney Heritage Park, and communities from Omaha to Sidney to Chadron are as colorful as ever. One-of-a-kind attractions, one-time-only events, annual festivals, and all sorts of family-friendly fun – it’s a great time to visit Nebraska.

What better time of year than spring to pack up the car and embark on a scenic driving tour to see first hand what makes Nebraska so special? Along the way, road trippers take in views of vast prairies throughout the Great Plains, the sloping dunes of the Sandhills, and unique rock formations in the panhandle region. Countless roadside attractions provide plenty of reasons to get out and stretch your legs and towns like Lincoln, Grand Island, and Kearney are ideal places to stop and rest.

Visitors won’t have trouble finding things to do in Omaha. The kids can enjoy an edifying afternoon at the Omaha Children’s Museum; the Orpheum Theatre – regular host of Broadway shows, operas, and concerts – is a go-to for those in search of a little culture; and The Durham Museum offers history buffs a glimpse back into the Old West.

This season, the Durham Museum hosts the Omaha Lost, Omaha Saved: 50 Years of Landmark Preservation exhibit. It’s a chance to learn about a number of Omaha's historic landmarks – and how they were almost lost forever, March 12th through June 12th.

If it’s a little more action you’re after, look to the 2016 Capital City Stampede PRCA Rodeo on May 13th and 14th. The Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln hosts the two-day, PRCA-sanctioned competition and a variety of festivities surround the main ropin' and lassoin' events. Get your tickets now – this one’s likely to sell out.

The 2016 Summer Outdoor Exhibit is a chance for Grand Island visitors to learn about Nebraska history while enjoying some hands-on, family-friendly fun. Interactive learning experiments, living history interpretations, and more fill the Stuhr Museum of the Prairie Pioneer all summer long, from May 1st through September 5th.
