Visiting Nebraska
Venture through the Cornhusker State – make the most of your Nebraska travels. It might be the charm and hospitality of central Nebraska while you explore Kearney. It could be the eastern region of the state, home to the capital, Lincoln, and all the bustling activity of a big city – including the University of Nebraska. College baseball fans flock to Omaha in droves in June for a chance to check out the best the sport has to offer. If you’re coming from the west, keep an eye out for Ogallala, home to the Front Street & Cowboys Museum. There’s much to experience in Nebraska.
In eastern Nebraska you’ll find Lincoln, the state capital. Here, visitors are minutes from exploring Holmes Lake Recreation Area, just over an hour from Omaha. Spring visitors can head to the Lied Center for Performing Arts in mid-March and take in a performance by the Red Army Chorus and Dance Ensemble. In late March, don’t miss renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman, also at the Lied Center. Late June brings the wonderful early mornings of a Nebraska summer, and Divot’s Music Fest – keep an eye out for your favorite southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Lincoln is also home to the Nebraska History Museum – take a peek back at Nebraska’s formative days.
Further east, in between I-680 and I-480, venture into Omaha, home to the College World Series of Omaha – the men’s college baseball championship – held in late June. Spring is a great time to explore Dodge Park - set along the Missouri River, pack a tasty picnic, or do some boating and fishing. Summer travelers can dive into the local art scene with a visit to the Summer Arts Festival, in June. Set in downtown Omaha’s Gene Leahy Mall, enjoy three days of art, music, and food. Many families visiting the Omaha area make time for a visit to the Omaha Children’s Museum.
Central Nebraska visitors will find a friendly and cozy stay in Kearney. Situated just off I-80, Kearney is home to the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and the always exciting Yanney Heritage Park. In February, head to the Buffalo County Fairgrounds for the Nebraska Cattleman’s Classic, the “Winter Family Event for all Beef Industry Enthusiasts.” In March keep an eye open for the Kearney Bike Show, also at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds. Revel in the wonderful spring and summer temperatures while playing 18 holes at Buffalo Ridge Golf Course, the “midwest’s hidden jewel of golfing.”
