Four-Year Institutions in the Cornhusker State
The state of Nebraska features several examples of higher education – everything from private universities to community colleges – however Nebraska’s best known schools are within the University of Nebraska system and the Nebraska State College system.
The Cornhusker State’s flagship university of the University of Nebraska system is in fact the home of the Cornhuskers: the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Nebraska’s oldest and largest university, NU is a public research institute with an enrollment of nearly 25,000 students. Drive in from nearby Lincoln.
Several landmarks adorn the 613-acre campus, including the Lied Center for Performing Arts and Memorial Stadium – home to the Cornhuskers of the Big Ten Conference.
Numerous museums are found on campus as well like the University of Nebraska State Museum, the Great Plains Art Museum, the Lester F. Larsen Tractor Museum, and the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden.
Other institutes within the University of Nebraska system include the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Kearney, the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha and University of Nebraska Medical Center – both in Omaha.
Several private colleges are set throughout Nebraska as well, including Bellevue University, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Creighton University, Clarkson College, and Hastings College – plus many more.
Community colleges include Little Priest Tribal College, Mid-Plains Community College, Nebraska Indian Community College, Western Nebraska Community College, and more.
